Hand crafted Allure
Tea is a beverage enjoyed worldwide. The Japanese have the preparation and consumption of tea down to a work of art. One part of this artwork is a Kyusu teapot. This is a Japanese ceramic tea pot that has a unique handle extending from one side. As opposed to the traditional curved handle atop or on the side of most other teapots. This teapot was designed to brew green tea, exclusively.
Usually for the individual
More often than not, the Kyusu teapot is found in a smaller size. This little teapot is perfect for times when you want to sit back and have a cup of tea by yourself or with a good friend or loved one. Larger Kyusu teapots can be found if you look for them. These larger Kyusu teapots are perfect for groups of 12 or so. Small or large the Kyusu teapot is the perfect addition for our collection if you are a teapot connoisseur. Even if you are just starting your collection you will want to have one of these.
Exclusively designed
The Kyusu teapot was designed especially to brew green tea in. Green tea, when brewed in a metal teapot will pick up the flavor of the metal elements. This will destroy the subtle nuances that green tea has. The ceramic that the Kyusu teapot is made from allows the green tea to develop flavor as it was meant to without leaching any taste from the teapot while steeping.
The Aichi Prefecture
The Kyusu teapot is originally from the one of the “Six Old Kilns of Japan”. This is not exactly what it sounds like. The city was designated along with five other cities. They are Shigaraki, Bizen, Tanba, Echizen, and Soto. The reason they are called this is because they produce large amounts of ceramic products, having hundreds of kilns working to create Kyusu teapots along with other unique and beautiful stoneware.
Easiest teapot around
The Kyusu teapot is different in that it does not require an infuser to be used with the teapot. An infuser traps the loose tea in a cage like environment, and keeps the tea leaves from drifting into your cup of tea. Few societies have deemed drinking tea and spitting out the leaves as good etiquette. The Kyusu teapot is designed with a fine mesh strainer in the spout so that the tea leaves are trapped in the teapot itself, instead of flowing up to and through the spout. The tea is poured out through a simple twist of the wrist. This proper pouring technique also keeps the tea leaves from floating up and out of the spout.
Care of the Kyusu teapot
When done with the Kyusu teapot clean up could not be any easier. The Kyusu teapot only needs to be washed with warm water. Soap should never be used on these teapots. Do not put them into the dishwasher as the detergents and drying cycle can cause cracking and chipping to appear in the stoneware. Leaving the Kyusu teapot in the open air is the best way to allow it to dry.
A Kyusu teapot is a great gift idea. Be careful when shopping for and buying a Kyusu teapot. You may find yourself inadvertently addicted to the collecting of these uniquely hand-crafted ceramic pieces. You can buy a Kyusu teapot individually or you can purchase a full set, along with special cups to drink your green tea from. Look online for the best deals, but if you are in a hurry your local mall will more that likely have a specialty store that carries one or two Kyusu teapots as part of their regular inventory.
